Happy Autumn, Everyone!
Hi everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful summer, and are enjoying the
beautiful weather (at least in this area) as we head into
fall.
Touring this summer, which was mostly overseas, was fantastic.
I played with my own trio, as well as with Metro and Reunion.
It was great to collaborate with my old friend Bill Evans
as a guest of Metro. One of the nice aspects of touring Europe
is that you get to see a lot of other bands at the festivals.
I especially enjoyed seeing my friends from the Steely Dan
band--Jim Pugh, Roger Rosenberg, John Herrington, and Keith
Carlock, among others. I also ran into Larry Carlton and Robben
Ford, two of my favorite guitarists and I had the pleasure
of meeting blues guitarist Keb‘ Mo' for the first time.
I even managed to squeeze in a little tennis and beach time…
Over the past year, during long plane rides and layovers,
I have developed a new hobby, which is fiction writing. This
summer I finished my first novel, which is a spy thriller
novel entitled Double Read.
I hope to get it published someday and will keep you posted.
I have a number of gigs coming up in the fall, including
some in which I'll be teaming up with Eric Marienthal. We
enjoyed working together so much on the reunion gigs last
year, that we decided to team up again for a few more shows.
I also will be part of Jason Miles's series of Tributes to
Grover Washington, Jr. and of course will be playing shows
with my own band as well.
As always, see my website show schedule
for the latest updates.
Thanks to all of you who listen and support my music."Good
to Go" reached #5 and stayed on the charts for over 40
weeks! Look for a new single to hit radio soon; it will be
the track "Window Of The Soul."

Cover of the new Metro
CD, by Sandrine Lee |
In news from the Studio, I want to let you all know
that the new Metro CD is now
done and should be released within the next month. It is called
Express and is on Mitchell
Forman's label, Marsis Jazz. If you'd like to pre-order a
copy, you can click
here to buy from Mitchell's store. As many of you know,
we have had a rotating bass chair, but that has changed also:
Will Lee is going to be the bassist from now on.
I also want to let you know that Brian Simpson's new CD Above
The Clouds has been released. I play a solo on that
CD, as well as on singer Mark Murphy's new CD Love
Is What Stays, and also on the newest New York Voices
CD and the track is pretty cool: it's a cover of Stevie Wonder's
Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing.
In news from the web, I have decided that it is time to mention
that for the last few years, someone has been running a MySpace
page under my name without my permission. I know that imitation
is a form of flattery, but as MySpace has become such an important
site these days, it seemed like time to finally create my
own official myspace page. If you'd like to check it out,
the URL is: www.myspace.com/chuckloebofficial.
So far I've included four songs, a slide show and a photo
gallery and I will be adding video soon.
While you are on myspace, you may also be interested in checking
out my daughter Lizzy's page at www.myspace.com/lizzyloebmusic.
While I have some time before I need to start working on my
next CD, I am continuing to help Lizzy with her debut CD.
She is working very hard on her music and also did some live
performances with me and my band over the summer (see photos
below). Her older sister Christina, who just graduated from
college with a degree in economics, is helping her as well,
so it's a whole family affair now.
As those of you are familiar with MySpace probably know,
if you sign up for a MySpace account you can also send e-mails
through the system or post messages in her blog. Of course,
her proud father is also happy to receive e-mail messages
on her behalf.

Finally, I would like to note with sadness the passing of
Jon Lucien on August 18th.
What can one say when a voice like Jon's is silenced? A voice
that reached way into our souls with its depth - both in register
and feeling - to move us in a way that only beautiful music
can.
Beyond the voice was the man: kind and gentle, loving and
aware. We will all miss him, but thank God that we have his
music with us here forever. Sing on Jon...
Also - on September 11th we lost legendary keyboardist/composer
Joe Zawinul. He was a true hero to me from his earliest years
with Cannonball Adderley and Miles Davis (Joe wrote the classics
"Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" for Cannonball, and "In
a Silent Way" for Miles!) -- through the incredible years
as co-leader and founder of the groundbreaking group Weather
Report (the classic "Birdland" was his), and of
course his own band The Syndicate. I know that his music will
inspire people for generations to come, as it has me for all
these years.
In closing, I would like to wish all of you a good fall.
I will be back again as the holidays approach.
Best wishes,
